Martha “mott” Hinton, beloved mother, sister, aunt, friend, advisor passed away on July 22nd at the age of 62. A Rochester-native, Martha, earned her B.S. in Social Work from Nazareth College, and had a lifelong passion for baking, quilting, sewing and other crafts.
Strong-willed, opinionated, good-natured, loving and firm. Our rock was a wellspring of advice, advocacy and action for others. Singular in her personal style, and unbending in her individuality, she was an original. In her absence we follow her example: we wipe our tears and carry on.
She is survived by her children, Sofrina and Sylvester; one grandchild, Talia; her sisters, Beverly and Cherryl; her brothers Wallace Jr. and Charles Sr.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and elders.
Respects can be paid on Thursday, July 30 from 4–8pm at Metropolitan Funeral Chapels, 109 West Avenue. Memorial Potluck Celebration will be held on Friday, July 31 from 5–9pm at Genesee Valley Park, Hawthorne Pavilion. Bring your best dish and best memories of Martha. Casual attire – No black.
